First Training After Holidays Doesn't Need to Be Good, It Just Needs to Be Done

First training after holidays doesn't have to be good, just needs to be done
First training after holidays

I know how it feels, first training after holidays, everyone around is starting their New Year's resolution fitness plan, but you simply have no energy to move. You may even have some motivation, but you feel like a zombie.

Tip 1. Decision over Motivation

The best advice I received, and I also used in my own training for the past 25 years (so it probably works) is: "Don't think, just do."

Stupid, huh?

But seriously, find the time when you feel at your best (so probably avoid after sunset or when you are sleepy, etc). And then prepare your training gear, pack your bag!

The truth is, you don't need motivation. Motivation is a nice thing to have, but all you need is a decision.

And I get it, making a decision to start moving again when it's snowing outside and you are drinking hot cocoa, is not easy.

Tip 2. Remember How You Feel After

Also, choose your thoughts wisely.

Instead of "I am so rusty now and I'm gonna look like an idiot" why don't you go for "Remember, how it feels when I'm done?"

Focus on:

  • You will be proud of yourself

  • You will feel energized

  • Your body will be like WHOA that was great!

  • You will be happy

  • And for a quick moment, maybe you will be looking forward to the next session?

Tip 3. It Does Not Need to Be a Good Session

I have training plans, goals, notes... But sometimes all I need is to just hit the gym, and do something, no matter how small, and that will restart me.

It doesn't matter if you don't have a plan yet.

It doesn't matter that today is Tuesday and you usually don't practice on Tuesdays.

It doesn't matter if you will just spend 30 mins running, lifting, or going through kung fu forms that you hardly remember.

Even if you just come to the gym, do something for 15 min, and then leave, you won!

It will get easier, trust me.

But only after you start. And nobody says you need to start with a 60-minute session that you would feel proud about. Forget that!

Tip 4. Repeat until You Find Your Joy (again)!

And enjoy!

Your turn!
